Sidonia's Thread: Creating a Life from Holocaust to High Fashion ran from 2/8/2019 to 4/28/2019 at the Windham Textile and History Museum in Willimantic, CT. The exhibit was a showcase of the life and work of Sidonia Perlstein, a Holocaust survivor, an immigrant to the US, a self-made business woman, a craftsman, a costume artist, and a single mother. Around fifty garments created by Sidonia were on display, accompanied by personal artifacts and historical narratives. Hana Marcus, Sidonia's daughter, gave several talks and signed books about her mother during the exhibit.

Sidonia's Thread was a reminder of the importance of immigration to the US and connected the Holocaust and events of World War II with local history. I received a CSU-AAUP Faculty Research Grant for this project, and the exhibit was also sponsored by the CT Humanities Grant, Windham Textile and History Museum, and by the Hochberg Committee for Holocaust and Human Rights Education of Temple B'Nai Israel of Willimantic. The exhibit has been highlighted in all major CT newspapers, reflected by the local radio station, and was accompanied by a series of presentations at local libraries and community organizations.
